On November 8th, 2016, I was one of the few women in Arizona, on the ballot with Hillary Clinton. We both made a huge impact in this state and across the country. Secretary Clinton proved that a woman can run for and win the popular vote for the highest office in the United States of America and I showed a Progressive Democrat woman, running for Congress in one of the most conservative districts in the country, can increase Democratic voter turnout by record breaking numbers.
After the shock of the 2016 elections, Americans want to be involved in politics, and be educated on who their candidates really are. They’re craving Representatives who are real people, who have walked in their shoes and know the reality that Arizonans are living everyday. They want individuals who will not become a part of the political machine in Washington, D.C. but a woman who will stand up to that machine and fight the injustice within.
In 2018, we have the opportunity to truly change our approach to politics in Arizona’s Congressional District 9. Traditionally, men who have climbed the political ladder and those with large sums of money are uplifted by the media thus granted access to voters, while grassroots candidates are considered unviable and ignored. This is hurting our democracy and voters feel disconnected from the process. Thankfully, this is changing because of hard work from candidates and advocates determined to bring balance to our government. We can elect Representatives that reflect our values, who lead a new approach to politics, and have a perspective that truly represents all of those in Arizona Congressional District 9.
Together, we can change the face of Congress, so it looks like the American people, and future generations feel connected to their government. Those of us living paycheck-to-paycheck are looking for someone who isn't just a stand-in speaking for us. Instead, we deserve someone who understands our daily lives; someone that can personally attest to the ways we can improve our country for those who are working harder than ever for the American dream.
When elected in 2018, I will do everything in my power as a Representative within the United States House, to pass legislation for Universal Healthcare, demand a budget that provides for job creation by rebuilding of our infrastructure, while also providing grants for states using architectural solutions that are innovative and multi-purpose, like roadways that are also solar panels. In my office, the scientific method is at the core of our functionality from the development of public policy, to advocating for Arizonans so they receive the help they deserve as American citizens.
We can bring hope and change back to America. We can take back our government and that starts by electing candidates with strength of character who will stand with the people of Arizona and not fear the machine in Washington. We deserve politicians that will not just sit in their office but those who will join us in the streets as we march for, and lay down our lives for freedom.
Join me in 2018 and this becomes a reality.
